Africa’s Moment

Op-ed by Ted Carter I have been fascinated with Africa’s natural beauty and the strength of its people since I visited the continent years ago. A picture on my desk reminds me of one of my most joyous life moments, running on the shore of the Red Sea with a group of African kids without a care. Though separated by culture and thousands of miles, we bonded instantly as members of the African diaspora. This cherished memory still brings a smile to my face 20 years later. Strength and Inspiration from Nelson Mandela After nominally studying the impact of colonialism in college, my interest in Africa accelerated during Nelson Mandela's triumphant visit to NYC in June 1990 following his release from prison after 27 years of fighting the injustices of apartheid. Mandela’s powerful speech at Yankee Stadium, where he spoke of the unbreakable cord that connects African Americans and Africans, has served as a source of strength, inspiration, and a personal call to action for me.

Semiconductors Leading to a New America at 250

By Ted Carter Recently, there has been important media coverage on an economic and foreign policy issue – providing context for the resurging conflict with China and resulting chess moves vis-à-vis Taiwan; all dealing with the 21st century version of “Black Gold” which are semiconductors. The Strategic Importance of Semiconductors How semiconductors are manufactured, their criticality to the Global Economy, U.S. national security, global geopolitics and Global consumer demand, have been highlighted in a recent 60 Minutes segment; Chris Miller’s excellent book, Chip War, The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology and a recent WIRED magazine podcast, I saw the Face of God in a Chip Factory: Inside TSMC, the mysterious Taiwanese company at the center of the global Semiconductor industry.

Ted Carter to be a Judge at Operation Ten City Baltimore

Ted Carter, founder and CEO of The SI3 Group in Baltimore, will be a judge at the upcoming business pitch competition for the Jospeh Center’s Operation Ten City Tour on Saturday, November 18th at the Baltimore Convention Center. He will also be panelist on Economic Transformation. Entrepreneurs from the DC-MD-VA region will showcase their products and services that have a measurable impact on the community, have the potential for commercialization and scalability, and fill a need that solves challenges and cares in the marketplace. Judges will evaluate the finalists’ live pitch presentations. Winners will receive a meaningful monetary award and, If the winners identified a partner church that supported them through the business pitch competition, then the partner church may also be eligible to receive a donation.
